Alex Bailess and Sky Bet visit the CureHeart Team in Oxford

Alex Bailess visiting CureHeart lab

At just 26, Alex Bailess was forced to retire from semi-professional football after being diagnosed with an inherited heart muscle condition called arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy. She came to Oxford, with Sky Bet, to see first-hand the progress we are making towards developing cures for inherited cardiomyopathies.

Sky Bet have partnered with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and through their #EveryMinuteMatters campaign, they have contributed £6m to support the life saving work of the BHF, including helping to support CureHeart. We are incredibly grateful to them for this support.

Alex’s story is a powerful reminder of why our research matters for families around the world who are affected by cardiomyopathy. Listen to Alex’s story and watch footage of her visit.
