It was our great privilege on Wednesday (18th June) to host a visit from patients and charity executives from our partners Cardiomyopathy UK. Delegates came from across the country to see our research in action at the John Radcliffe Hospital. CureHeart Director Prof Hugh Watkins kicked off the visit by outlining the aims, objectives and pioneering advancements of the CureHeart programme so far. Lunch and poster presentations from our team of researchers followed, where we outlined how we are trying to understand, diagnose, and ultimately treat inherited cardiomyopathies with novel genetic therapies. We were then able to bring patients up to the laboratories to meet some more of our researchers working in the molecular biology, tissue culture and imaging suites. We had the opportunity to show the application of genetic treatments to beating heart cells, high resolution imaging with fluorescent biosensors and screening tools for our therapeutic design pipelines.
These events are hugely important to CureHeart, meeting patients who are living with inherited cardiomyopathies and hearing their stories of hope for the future is massively motivating for our team. We hope everybody who was able to make the journey to Oxford enjoyed the day, and would like to thank Cardiomyopathy UK for their continued support and engagement with CureHeart.
