Chloe completed her PhD under the guidance of Dr. Nick Fletcher at Lancaster University. Her thesis was titled “Investigating Benzimidazole-Based Fluorophores for Their Biological Activities”, studying novel Ru(II) polypyridyl complexes and their interactions with DNA and biologically important anions. Chloe then moved to the University of Southampton as a Research Fellow in the Stulz group, where she worked on porphyrin-modified oligonucleotides for G-quadruplex stabilisation.
Dr Chloe Howells joined the Gupta group in 2026 as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist, where she researches oligonucleotide conjugates for delivery to extrahepatic cells. Her current work involves conjugating antibodies and small molecules to oligonucleotides for cardiac delivery in the treatment of inherited cardiomyopathies.
